Parents as Partners

The Discovery House family is a close-knit community and parental involvement is of immense benefit to the entire community. Opportunities for parental involvement abound.

The Parents’ Forum: is a representative group of elected parents committed to the development of the school’s social programs. It is made up of the Chairman and an executive committee

Parent Teacher Conferences: are held three times during the school year. It is a time to set development targets, reflect on the child’s accomplishments, and express any concerns.

Parent Education Series: are classes designed to equip parents with the knowledge and skills to optimize their child’s development. Classes hold on weekday evenings or weekends.

Observation & Reading Days: Parents are thrilled to watch their children at work in the classroom at least once a term. Reading is so much fun for both the children and the parents who come in once a week to read to the younger children.

Prayer Coffee: Parents and staff come together regularly to pray for the children and their families.

Communication:

  • Our monthly newsletter keeps the community up to date with information about the school.
  • Each classroom has its own email address and mobile phone with instant messaging functionality (WhatsApp) so parents can chat with the teachers as often as they need to. Teachers can only respond before or after classroom hours.
  • Parents get feedback about their child’s activity and school-wide activities through Montessori Compass and School Cues
